Audio Quality
All recordings have been 'cleaned' as much as possible while still preserving the original sound balance. The result is an excellent collection of high-quality archive performances. Occasionally there is audio evidence of the age of the original source tapes, plus the odd moment of feedback, but these are minimal, and certainly do not take away from the overall experience.
Band Audio Rating: 8/10
Recording Source

Curtain Call : September 2003
I was asked to provide an airbrush painting for the Front Row Club box set of Live material 1983-88. The brief to me was to use some of the well known elements from the first four albums and singles and place them in a new composition relating to the early live-era of Marillion. My thoughts pretty early on were to design a chess-board scene with all the album sleeve figures as chess pieces... quickly discarded as they looked too static!
After a while the idea of the Jester and boy announcing the arrival of the band on stage seemed more appropriate. However the chess board remained as a background element with the black-angel version of Torch staring stagewards. The White Queen and Black Knight symbolised perhaps the conflicts at play within the songs as well as deadly games played out at dusk. Backstage were boxes filled with props that were waiting to be unpacked... violin case, chameleon, Grendel mask, statues covered with plastic dustsheets...as was the figure on the left... Incubus perhaps, holding the Mr. Punch glove puppet...the sheet illuminated in such a way as to suggest a bridal veil. Also, stage right...that damned rubber plant that I forgot to put on the original Script cover... finally it's made it!
