SPRING 2025 FOREWORD

At the point of writing, the band has just completed the sixth of its nine Marillion Weekends of 2025 in Leicester and the mystery weekend turns out to be Utrecht in December, and not Narnia as we predicted (that’s another £10 we owe Lucy J... ), but we thought that we’d dedicate this magazine to what we all thought – including the band – would be the final Marillion Weekend in Port Zélande.

While every Marillion Weekend is special, the PZ Weekends have always turned it up to 11, what with everyone being in together, the band wandering around and the numerous other events going on that aren’t so easy to do outside of a residential weekend. To that end, we wanted to try and bring alive the end-to-end experience at PZ from the main attraction to the ancillary stuff that makes PZ, well, PZ.

So, Rebecca Mason reviews her first ever PZ weekend, while disrespectful Marillion employee Mark Kennedy temporarily forgets who his favourite band are to laud the virtues of Anneke Van Giersbergen’s Friday slot. Debi McMillan tells us what it’s like when you’re dragged along to a Weekend as the other half of a fan. The Web UK’s own Lucy Jones writes up the phenomenon that the charity stall has become, while the team behind the Marillion Quiz explain quite what a task it is to put together. Merch Queen Georgina Wistow explains the well-oiled machine that parts us merch-hungry fans from our cash, while Caden Clarkson tells us what it’s like getting to do your work experience at a Marillion Weekend, and Mark McCormac and Kirt Van Overen tell us all about standing on the main stage waving a flag.

Phew – if that doesn’t bring back a few memories, we don’t know what will. The fact that a carrot of possibility of one more PZ weekend has been dangled, well, sign us up right now!

There’s still three Weekends to go, so hopefully see you on the road somewhere down the line. Maybe it won’t be in a wardrobe of fur coats, but if you bring the Turkish Delight, it might help us get over giving Lucy that tenner...
